Mike Leis

Summary: Mr. Leis has been in the water business for 24 years. In 1976, he started installing water meters for the Village of Elida. In January 1983, he started full-time with the Village of Elida in the water & wastewater fields, working there for 11½ years. In 1994, he began working with Industrial Water Systems, Inc., where he is involved with commercial, industrial & municipal water treatment. His work entails installation, service & troubleshooting of ion exchange, carbon, depth filtration, greensand, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, deionization and various other water treatment systems. These systems have been surface water and ground water and have ranged from 1 gpm to 1 MGD or above. He often works with Ohio EPA, helping public water systems comply with regulations and acquire plan approval for new treatment systems. He has been involved in various pilot studies where he has handled Ohio EPA protocol and sampling procedures to ensure plan approval for new treatment technologies for the State of Ohio and our public water systems.

Jeffrey A. Sewert

Summary: Mr Sewert has worked for the Village of Lewisburg for the last 20 years. He was the service superintendent for 10 years, overseeing street, curb, gutter and sidewalk repairs and new installation; park maintenance and improvement; a mandatory curb-side recycling program (that began 9 years ago); and, superintendent of the water and wastewater treatment facilities. Seven full-time and four part-time persons make up the Lewisburg service department. The Lewisburg water treatment plant is a groundwater lime-softening plant and has a daily flow of approximately 250,000 gallons. One of the largest water consumers in the village is US Precision Glass, an industry employing some 175 persons. During his employment with the village, Mr. Sewert has been involved with the procurement of numerous grants, including those for an extensive water plant addition, storm sewer improvements, extension of water lines and road rebuilding. Presently, the village is constructing a 500,000 gallon water tower, for which they procured a $600,000 interest-free loan. Effective April 1, 1999, Mr. Sewert became the Village Administrator for the Village of Lewisburg.

Summary: Stu has been actively involved in the ground water science and technology field since 1979. He served as a research associate and education program coordinator for the National Ground Water Association, 1979-1983, and taught ground water technology program courses for Wright State University. Since 1983 (and since 1996 in partnership with Allen Comeskey, CPG), he has been providing hydrogeologic and ground-water microbiological analysis and consultation (specifically on performance problems in wells and water systems and their maintenance and rehabilitation), wellfield planning, and contract research for organizations such as AWWARF and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. Stu is author/co-author of a large number of publications on well maintenance and rehabilitation, biofouling in these systems, and drilling and well construction.

Summary: Ms. Schiefer started in the water industry as a project manager for AD+Soil, Inc., overseeing the removal of lime sludge from water plants to be used to enhance the soil for area farmers. In 1990, she began working as an Environmental Scientist for the Ohio EPA, in the Division of Drinking and Ground Waters, Northwest District Office-Bowling Green. She has responsibility for about 100 community and non-transient ground water systems in six counties. She works closely with her systems to provide safe, potable and adequate drinking water that meet federal and state regulations and standards..
