Edward Drummond Libbey York - Death 1925-2002

Edward York served as Toledo water commissioner for 15 years retiring in 1983. His career in public service began in 1960 as safety-service director of Oregon, where he helped design and build its water treatment plant. Mr. York was instrumental in constructing one of the main lines that bring water from Lake Erie to the Toledo treatment facilities and oversaw improvements to the water treatment plant that saved the city more than $100,000 a year in electrical costs. Distribution of city water was expanded to Rossford, Perrysburg, and Monroe County under his watch. Mr. York was very highly respected, a good manager, and a strict disciplinarian.

Mr. York served as chair of the Ohio Section in 1976. He is the father-in-law of Robert Stevenson who served as Toledo's commissioner of treatment - the equivalent position in city government.
