2003 Safety Award |
|
Many of us, as utilities and municipalities, have worked hard at creating a strong safety culture, and deserve the accolades for it. Well, there are two ways to accomplish that. One is on the section level, and the other is on the national level. ________________________________________________________
At the section level a form is completed and forwarded to AWWA in Denver by May 30th.
Upon receipt of the information, AWWA calculates and compares an individual utility's incident (recorded) rate and lost work rate to those rates as published by the U.S. Department of Labor. The most recent statistics available are year 2000 Bureau of Labor Statistics (via OSHA) 2000 rates may be reviewed @ http://www.osha.gov/oshastats/work.html - pdf file, page 10 SIC code 494 water supplies.
Incidence rate = 8.0; Lost Workday Rate = 4.9. Due to these new rates and changes to the award classification size the award criteria changes as well. The figures in brackets are for the 2001 awards. They may change annually. The Categories for recognition are noted by size of the utility, then by accomplishment. The award certificates are generated and sent to section to be presented at your annual section meeting.
