HOUSE PANEL COMPLETES WORK ON GREAT LAKES COMPACT BILL
Ohio is poised to become the first state in the Great Lakes basin to ratify a multi-state, international compact designed to protect the
valuable water resources from diversions.

Addressing business community concerns while not attempting to alter the compact itself, the House Economic Development and Environment Committee unanimously reported Wednesday an amended version of legislation (HB 574) that sets parameters for Ohio's involvement and spells out the legislature's intent on related issues.

Sustaining and Associate Members !!

As you know, our annual Ohio Rural Water Association (ORWA)
conference is coming up April 2 through April 5th.
In an effort to make this year's conference even better and improve
interaction between all ORWA members, we wish to
include musical entertainment for the Tuesday night get-together.

To do this we need your help.  We need to raise $2,000 to help cover costs.

ORWA is asking for additional sponsorship for this event.  Ideally one sponsor will be able to donate the whole amount.    However, reality would suggest that sponsorships of $200.00 would be better. Any and all sponsors will be recognized for their support of ORWA.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Dusty Parker
Conference Chairman

10/18/06:

Important Survey for Water & Wastewater Managers

Dear Drinking Water and Wastewater System Managers:

Leaders in the water sector have been appealing to U.S. officials to make
vaccinations available to drinking water and wastewater system employees to keep
essential public services running in the event of a pandemic. However, there
will likely be only a finite number of vaccinations available for the entire
country, probably making it necessary to ration vaccinations.

As part of the water sector’s effort to secure vaccinations, the WaterISAC is
polling utilities to determine how many workers in the sector would need to be
vaccinated in a worst-case scenario. The information you provide will help
fulfill a request by the President’s National Infrastructure Advisory Council
(NIAC), which is preparing a report on pandemic preparations for the White
House. You can learn more about NIAC at www.dhs.gov/niac.

We hope you will take part in this important survey. Survey responses are
requested as soon as possible and no later than Friday, September 29. We
estimate completing the survey will take only 15 minutes. We are only requesting
that you provide an educated guess, not documented figures (unless those are
readily available). Only water sector representatives will have access to
individual responses, and only aggregate information will be shared.
To begin the survey, go to the WaterISAC’s public website at
http://www.waterisac.org/survey:

About Pandemics and Vaccinations
There is no indication that the U.S. is currently threatened by a flu pandemic,
but experts say that if an avian flu pandemic reaches the U.S., the flu will
occur in six- to eight-week waves. In such scenarios, many workers and their
families will remain home to avoid exposure. However, the need for public
services will not be diminished, requiring at least a minimal number of critical
employees to report to work.

About the WaterISAC and the WaterSC
The Water Information Sharing and Analysis Center (www.WaterISAC.org):
is a subscriber-based, not-for-profit Internet
clearinghouse of sensitive water security information acquired from a variety of
private and government intelligence and law enforcement agencies. WaterISAC is
funded by utility subscription fees and by Congressional appropriations via a
grant from the U.S. EPA

The Water Security Channel (www.WaterSC.org): is a
free service of the WaterISAC for utilities that wish to receive only
non-sensitive or open-source security information.

If you have any questions, please contact Vance Taylor at taylor@waterisac.org
or 202-331-0479.

Sincerely,
Diane VanDe Hei
Executive Director
WaterISAC and WaterSC
